Wisconsin Teaching Fellows & Scholars

Each year, the NTLC invites instructors to apply to become a Wisconsin Teaching Fellow or Scholar (WTFS). Sponsored by the UW System's Office of Professional and Instructional Development (OPID), this award honors both experienced and early-career educators and recognizes their excellence in teaching and research. Candidates must be exceptional teachers who publicly share their expertise and demonstrate leadership.

Selected participants should be familiar with Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) research, since that particular research model provides the basis for yearlong projects that Fellows and Scholars work on. Each participant completes a SoTL project, collaborates with other fellows and scholars on designing projects, and shares research results in public forums.

Applications are now open for 2019-2020. Chosen participants will receive financial support from UW-Stout and OPID. Interested applicants, please contact Renee Howarton to obtain the WTFS Budget Sheet.

Honoring Our Participants

Each UW institution may nominate two to three candidates for the WTFS program. The awardees participate in events throughout the year, including attending Faculty College, a summer institute, and fall and winter seminars. Wisconsin Teaching Fellows and Scholars are expected to serve as leaders and mentors, sharing their project ideas and outcomes in a variety of public forums.

Faculty College

Sponsored by UW System Office of Professional and Instructional Development (OPID), Faculty College provides an annual opportunity for UW System faculty and academic staff to unite in concentrated study and discussion aimed at improving undergraduate teaching and learning. Some 100 participants attend three days of intensive, interdisciplinary seminars on topics related to teaching and learning.

OPID Spring Conference

The Office of Professional Instructional Development (OPID) sponsors this annual conference each April. Approximately 200 faculty, staff and students come together across diverse disciplines to present scholarly results from teaching and student learning related research. This dynamic event provides networking, educational and scholarly engagement opportunities for all who attend!
