UW-Stout students, the university community and public can get some exercise and get to know their local police officers at the same time during an annual run at UW-Stout.
Run With the Cops will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, beginning outside Johnson Fieldhouse at UW-Stout. Participants can choose from a 5K run or one-mile walk.
Awards will go to the top male and female finishers and the top officer in uniform. Free parking will be available in lot 29, next to the outdoor track. Learn more and register here.
About 25 police and sheriff’s deputies from UW-Stout, Menomonie and Dunn County are expected to attend, including some as run/walk participants. Lights from police vehicles will line the course, and participants will receive glow-in-the-dark items.
Before the race, kids can try an obstacle course and see police and SWAT vehicles and a police dog. The event will include a boot camp warmup and a donut eating contest.
Proceeds benefit Wisconsin Special Olympics athletes. More than 1,600 people raised about $100,000 during Run With the Cops events in Wisconsin last year.
The UW-Stout event is one of seven Run With the Cops statewide presented by Previa Health. Others include Oct. 6 in Rice Lake, Oct. 10 in River Falls and Oct. 12 in Esau Claire.
The first such event in Wisconsin was held in 2013 at UW-Stout.
