UW-Stout and the state Department of Public Instruction are collaborating to host a joint family and consumer sciences and child care conference Friday, Sept. 29, on campus at the Memorial Student Center.

Conference coordinator and Professor Diane Klemme said the collaboration with DPI is designed to “allow maximum attendance for family and consumer sciences educators across the region.”

Family and Consumer SciencesUW-Stout offers an undergraduate program in family and consumer sciences education. Teachers in the discipline are required to attend the annual DPI conference for certifications.

Keynote speaker Eric Chudler, executive director for the Center of Sensorimotor Neural Engineering, University of Washington, will speak on a “Journey into the Brain.”

Sessions will include supporting students with autism, money skills for young adults, principles of caregiving for infants and toddlers and the relevance of play.

A tour of UW-Stout’s Child and Family Study Center will be offered.

High school teachers are invited to bring students to tour UW-Stout, visit classes and visit with university students. Learn more about the opportunity and conference here.
