Q&A with Nick
What is your advice for a new student?
Keep an open mind and don’t be afraid to try new things! You never know what organization/activity will open new opportunities to you, and you can meet new friends.
What was your college major (and minor)?
I earned a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Political Science at Winona State University in 2009, and a Master of Arts in History at UW-Eau Claire in 2014.
Why did you choose your college major?
I’ve always found myself looking for the context behind the “why” of things to get a better perspective and understanding of the world around me. History helps me scratch that itch while also raising more questions that I’ll get to look into as well!
What do you love most about Stout?
I really love the hands-on approach to learning here at Stout and the community feel of the university. It really feels like everyone is supporting and encouraging students’ success.
My favorite thing to do in Menomonie is…
I really enjoy going to support all the local businesses. A few that come to mind are Lucette Brewing, Silver Dollar, Log Jam, Zymurgy, Brewery Nonic, Raw Deal, and Dragon Tale Books, and of course the Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts.
A random fact about me...
I play “vintage” baseball with the Menomonie Blue Caps team. We play by original rules from the 1860’s and wear period accurate uniforms and equipment as well. We’re partnered with the Dunn County Historical Society. Come check us out!
