Take Your Wisconsin Technical College System Education Further
Developed in response to working professionals’ need for additional education that supports career advancement as the Bachelor of Science degree in Management & Leadership is a collaborative effort between the Colleges of the Wisconsin Technical College System and the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
The 120-credit degree has a 33-credit Stout Core (i.e., general education) requirement, 53 credits of Major Studies (35-credit School of Management Core + 18-credit Concentration), and 34-credits of Technical Electives + Free Electives to reach the 120-credit graduation requirement.
The 34-credit block of courses in Technical Emphasis + Free Electives within the Management & Leadership major allows for the development of an area of expertise. For purposes of transfer between the WTCS colleges and UW-Stout, a technical expertise area is recognized as any of the areas for which the WTCS colleges offer either an A.A.S. or two-year diploma program.
UW-Stout recognizes that the successful completion of the program at the WTCS college is sufficient evidence to warrant our acceptance of technical credits in this area towards the B.S. in Management & Leadership program. Students intending to utilize this agreement may choose to take courses concurrently at both the sending and receiving institutions.
General Education courses offered as a part of the A.A.S. program at the WTCS colleges in the categories of Communication and Literacy, Humanities and Arts, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Math and Quantitative Reasoning, Civics and Perspectives, and Natural Science and Wellness areas may also transfer and be used towards the UW-Stout receiving program. These applicable courses have been pre-determined as to their transferability in Transferology. Those that have not been pre-determined may be considered on a case-by-case basis after a review of course syllabi through the transfer equivalency process.
Based on the above information, after the transferability of courses via the WTCS college’s A.A.S. degree, students transferring courses within the general education categories stated above and the 34-credit block of courses in Technical Emphasis + Free Electives will need approximately 50-60 additional credits to complete the B.S. Management & Leadership program at UW-Stout.
Students intending to utilize this agreement are encouraged to reach out to the Transfer Coordinator or Associate Director of Admissions at UW-Stout early in their degree at one of the WTCS colleges to determine the estimated transferability of credits based on their A.A.S. degree.
The following disclaimers/limitations apply for the B.S. Management & Leadership agreement:
- Remaining general education requirements may be fulfilled through any regionally accredited post-secondary institution. It is the student’s responsibility to have official transcripts showing completion of these courses, including grades, forwarded to the UW-Stout to be added to their academic record and counted towards the B.S. degree.
- Student credit will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis including credit for prior learning. This review may result in students utilizing transfer credits in a more comprehensive manner and may result in not needing to complete the full 50-60 credits noted above.
- Students at UW-Stout will be required to complete a minimum of 32 credits in residence for a bachelor’s degree at UW-Stout.
- This updated articulation agreement applies only to the B.S. Management & Leadership degree in effect Fall 2026 until revised. A change of major invalidates these course/credits for transfer unless they are approved within some other program-to-program articulation agreement for another major at UW-Stout.
