Articulation Agreement: UW-Stout & Northwestern Health Sciences University

This Agreement is entered into between Northwestern Health Sciences University (NWHSU) and the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Menomonie, WI to better serve students preparing to pursue a career in chiropractic. This agreement defines preparatory coursework to be completed at the University of Wisconsin-Stout for students intending to matriculate into NWHSU; this agreement will articulate the special terms for admission into NWHSU to earn a Doctor of Chiropractic, and the criteria for awarding a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin Stout. 

Objectives of the Agreement

  1. The purpose of this agreement is to create a pathway between the University of Wisconsin-Stout and NWHSU and thereby provide UW-Stout students with an opportunity to earn degrees from both institutions upon completion.
  2. It is agreed upon that each institution has the right and responsibility to make changes to its curricula and enrollment standards to maintain its academic integrity and meet accreditation standards. Such changes, if any, will be communicated with the offices and/or designated contacts responsible for oversight of the dual degree program.

Responsibilities of UW-Stout

  1. Recruitment of students for this program will be the responsibility of UW-Stout in cooperation with NWHSU.
  2. The Pre-Health Coordinator at UW-Stout will be assigned to the students aiming to complete this dual degree program. This advisor will be responsible to advise students regarding their academic preparation for admission to NWHSU and their goal of earning the Doctor of Chiropractic degree. 

Responsibilities of NWHSU

  1. NWHSU will inform the Pre-Health Coordinator of any changes in enrollment or program requirements which may impact the advising process at UW-Stout. 
  2. NWHSU will provide advisement during the enrollment process to UW-Stout students and throughout the duration of the Doctor of Chiropractic study to ensure students have a clear understanding of the sequence of courses and graduation requirements for the NWHSU program.

Admission and Graduation Requirements

  1. The University of Wisconsin Stout’s admission and program admission requirements apply to both direct entry students and to students under this agreement.
  2. Students must fulfill the graduation requirements at both institutions to include the following at the University of Wisconsin Stout including the completion of a minimum of 32 credits in residence for a bachelor’s degree at UW-Stout.
  3. Students who express an interest in the dual degree program must meet all the requirements for the B.S. Biology degree except for courses and credits to be reverse transferred from NWHSU to UW-Stout. This equates to completion of 90 credits which meets the prerequisite requirements for the Doctor of Chiropractic degree at NWHSU.

Transfer of Credits

  1. Courses will be applied and transfer as described in the attached Program Articulation Tables.
  2. Elective courses taken or substituted at the sending institution and sending program not listed in this agreement will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and determined how they may apply to the degree (if applicable and needed).

Implementation and Review

  1. The Provost, Dean, Program Director or designees of the parties to this agreement will implement the terms of this agreement, including identifying and incorporating any changes into subsequent agreements, assuring compliance with system policy, procedure and guidelines, and conducting a periodic review of this agreement.  
  2. This Articulation Agreement is effective on 12/01/2024 and shall remain in effect until the end date of 12/01/2029 or for five years, whichever occurs first, unless terminated or amended by either party with 30 days prior written notice. 
  3. The college and university shall work with students to resolve the transfer of courses should changes to either program occur while the agreement is in effect.
  4. This Articulation Agreement will be reviewed by both parties beginning 06/01/2029 within six months of the end date). 
  5. This articulation agreement applies only Spring 2025 until revised.
