Devany Dressen, a food service assistant in Dining Services, received the University Staff Appreciation Award for September 2027.

The individual nominating Dressen stated, “Nothing can prove your commitment better than breaking old habits, and that is exactly how Devany has shown her commitment to being a part of the Memorial Student Center dining team.

"There were moments in the beginning of Devany's time with us that we really had to challenge her to make some tough changes. It was not always easy, but she rose to the challenge. Her upbeat, spunky personality is an asset to the Fireside Cafe, and she has formed some fantastic bonds with many of the students she works with. She sees things from a perspective that is often similar to theirs and can then give direction that makes sense to them. She has made some huge improvements, and we are very proud of her.

"Devany has worked hard to take real ownership of her role in the Fireside Cafe. She understands the impact of her presence and recognizes her need to be present and consistent. She has started to recognize business patterns and is even trying to troubleshoot ideas to help improve operations in the Fireside. She has also really begun to own her ability to gain knowledge in the Blue Devil Market. She no longer sits back and waits to be directed to learn things down there, but jumps in, asks questions and strives to understand as much as she can.

"Devany has a very positive attitude towards customers and employees. You can always hear her happily chatting away to the people around her, doing what she can to make them feel included and welcome."

Each employee of the month receives a certificate of recognition and a gift presented by Chancellor Katherine Frank. The award, in its 22nd year, was established by the Chancellor’s Office and is co-sponsored by the University Staff Senate.
