Student research, poetry, food and the opportunity to support the Women and Gender Studies program at UW-Stout.

That’s the plan for the annual Yes! I’m a Feminist fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at the Raw Deal, 603 S. Broadway St.

March is Women’s History Month. The university also will hold the International Women’s Day celebration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Involvement Center in the Memorial Student Center. The event will include a community art project, photo booth, information and cupcakes.

Rickie-Ann LegleitnerMoney raised at Yes! I’m a Feminist will be used for scholarships to help students doing and presenting research in the field as well as for speakers and related events. The event is free and open to the public.

This event provides a fun opportunity to celebrate and learn about Women and Gender Studies at Stout, while supporting outstanding student research in the field,” said Rickie-Ann Legleitner, program adviser and an assistant professor in the English and philosophy department. “We hope that community members attend as well, as we want to continue building connections in Menomonie and beyond.”

From 6 to 7 p.m. student research will be on display. From 7 to 7:30 p.m. everyone is invited to read original or another poet’s work as part of a poetry slam. A poetry slam winner will be announced. Participants in the slam can register at the event.

Program supporters can donate at the event or through a Stout University Foundation event webpage.

Women and Gender Studies curriculum

UW-Stout offers a minor and a certificate in Women and Gender Studies. The curriculum guides students to explore women’s experiences and their contributions to society throughout history.

The mission of the program is to improve the campus climate for women and for LGBTQ members of the UW-Stout community and their allies.

The Women and Gender Studies program at UW-Stout is part of the UW System Women’s Studies Consortium.
