First-Year Registration and Orientation, Summer 2019
In this Section

We're happy you will be joining us this fall! Your next step is to attend First-Year Registration and Orientation:

  • Orientation is a required program which includes class registration, meeting your first-year advisor, getting your Stout BlueCard and laptop, and connecting with other UW-Stout students.

  • Parents/guardians are welcome, but not required, to attend. Each student will receive two meal tickets (1 student+1 guest). Any additional guests will need to purchase their meal tickets the day of the program.

  • Parents/guardians will attend informational sessions on college transition, financial aid and tuition, campus safety and dining services.

Before attending First-Year Registration and Orientation please complete the following steps:

Step 1) Register to attend First-Year Registration and Orientation

  • You will receive an invitation via e-mail in mid-March to select a date to attend orientation.

  • Check your personal calendar for other commitments and select a date when you are able to attend the full program (8:00 am - 4:00 pm). Leaving early is not an option. If you cannot attend the full day you will be asked to reschedule.

  • A calendar showing First-Year Registration and Orientation dates can be found hereYou will still need to register for a date via the e-mail invitation sent in mid-March.

  • If you have additional questions or concerns please contact us at orientation@uwstout.edu

Step 2) Take the University of Wisconsin Placement Tests in English and Mathematics

  • All first year students are required to either take the Wisconsin Regional English and Math Placement Tests or have college credit in English and Math.

  • If you have college credit in any of the following English courses, you do not need to take the English Placement Tests: ENGL 090; 101; 111.

  • If you have college credit in Math, it may not be adequate preparation for the major you are entering; contact the Advisement Center at advisement.testing@uwstout.edu to determine whether you need to take the Math Placement Test.

  • If you plan to take a world language course while attending UW-Stout, you will need to take the World Languages Placement Test. World Languages Placement Tests are offered in French, German, and Spanish.

  • To register for a placement test visit the Wisconsin Regional Placement Testing website.

  • If you have further questions regarding placement testing contact the Advisement Center via e-mail at advisement.testing@uwstout.edu

Step 3) Activate your UW-Stout e-mail account

  • Go to https://password.uwstout.edu/activate.aspx to activate your UW-Stout e-mail. You will need your campus ID number.

  • After successfully setting your password, you will be directed to activate your UW-Stout e-mail account.

  • Your e-mail username and password are used for all UW-Stout login functions. Please activate them prior to attending First-Year Registration and Orientation.
