MLS Improves Communication for Innovative Industries

Situation

In the Fall of 2023, the leaders of Innovative Industries recognized the business growth and future will be directly impacted by the frontline leaders. “The goal was to grow the business while retaining and developing the current staffing levels”, stated Innovative Industries President, Andrew Hessedal. The Manufacturing Leadership Series (MLS) fosters a presence of engagement to the culture. Innovative Industries identified that improving communication was critical to their organization and thought the MLS training would be beneficial to their workforce. For the company’s leadership, choosing to elevate individuals of various educational and social backgrounds within the corporation meant that while their experience and knowledge was valuable, it did not mean they would be able to share it effectively and efficiently. Following their work on MLS with the MOC, Innovative Industries leadership decided that the communication training will be part of their yearly employee investment process.

Solution

11 employees from Innovative Industries, including department supervisors, shop, and office staff participated in the Manufacturing Leadership Series (MLS) Training in October of 2023. Prior to the training, an assessment was made of the Key Performance Indicators which serves as a benchmark to measure the effectiveness of the people, processes, and technology. The MLS Training took place in 6, half-day sessions. The first four were conducted in a classroom setting and the last two were conducted on the floor alongside employees, helping them to apply the skills they learned in the class.

Results

  • Employee Retention: Over 95%
  • Increased/Retained Sales: Cost of goods sold decreased, sales increased which yielded higher profits.
