Cortney teaches language, literature, and culture courses for the Spanish Minor at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. With a focus on women’s travel literature, her research explores the cultural and historical narratives of journeys across the Atlantic and Mediterranean. This interest in travel writing reflects her dedication to promoting the transformative experience of studying abroad. Recently, with the help of AI and other technologies, she has explored innovative ways to immerse students in other cultures for short periods without leaving home.

Cortney enjoys sharing her personal experiences of living and studying abroad and is always eager to engage with students about the benefits of immersing themselves in different cultures and languages. She sees the Spanish Minor as a perfect complement to any field of study and is committed to helping students bridge their language skills with their professional aspirations.
