UW-Stout offers scholarships to qualified international applicants based on their academic achievement, equivalent grade point average (GPA), and financial need. These scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to applicants at the time of admission. Applicants can only win one international scholarship award.
International Student Tuition Scholarship
The following merit-based scholarships are based on previous academic performance and financial need.
Eligibility Requirements
- International applicants to any UW-Stout degree program are automatically considered.
- International applicants must apply to be full-time students.
- Award decisions are announced at admission and are final. Transcripts will not be re-evaluated for decision re-consideration.
- Customized Instruction, remedial courses, and ESL programs and classes are not eligible for the International Tuition Scholarship.
Undergraduate Students
- $5,000 award for international first-year and transfer applicants based on their high school and previous undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale).
- To annually maintain the scholarship, the student must fulfill their global involvement requirement and keep a UW-Stout undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Graduate Students
- $6,000 award for international graduate applicants based on their bachelors and previous graduate degree(s) cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher (on a 4.0 scale).
- To annually maintain the scholarship, the student must fulfill their global involvement requirement and keep a UW-Stout graduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
#YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship

The #YouAreWelcomeHere (#YAWH) Scholarship reflects a shared commitment among U.S. colleges and universities to foster welcoming, supportive, and globally engaged campus communities for international students. University of Wisconsin-Stout is proud to participate in this national initiative by awarding a limited number of renewable undergraduate scholarships valued at 50% of the published Nonresident Tuition Rate (excluding fees) per year, for up to four years of study.
This scholarship is available to newly admitted, first-year international students pursuing an undergraduate degree for the first time. Students applying as transfers are not eligible.
Recipients of the #YAWH Scholarship are expected to actively promote intercultural understanding and contribute to a welcoming campus environment by connecting people across cultures. As part of the selection process, applicants must demonstrate their leadership experience and vision for advancing intercultural learning at UW-Stout through either a written essay or a video submission.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a first-year international undergraduate student requiring an F-1 visa
- Be an applicant to any undergraduate degree program for the upcoming fall semester at UW-Stout
- Demonstrate interest in and initiative toward leadership in promoting intercultural learning and exchange
- Complete the UW-Stout #YAWH Scholarship application and submit either:
- a 500-1,000 word essay, or
a two- to five-minute video
describing their leadership skills and how they plan to use them to advance intercultural learning and understanding at UW-Stout.
- Not be enrolled in Customized Instruction, remedial courses, or ESL Institute as these programs are are not eligible for the #YAWH Scholarship.
How to Apply
Applications are submitted through the #YAWH Scholarship at UW-Stout online application form.
The application cycle is open from January 2, 2026 through April 1, 2026. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
Selected awardees will be notified by April 15, 2026.
Please note: If the student is awarded the International Student Tuition Scholarship and the #YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship, the student must choose which one to accept. These scholarships cannot be combined.
Scholarship Renewal and Responsibilities
The #YAWH Scholarship may be renewed for up to four years (fall and spring semesters only), provided recipients:
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
- Maintain full-time enrollment status each fall and spring semester
- Participate in cultural sharing and engagement activities at UW-Stout and within the local community
UW-Stout Foundation Scholarships
Continuing UW-Stout international students are eligible for a wide variety of scholarships offered by the UW-Stout Foundation. Get started on your universal scholarship application by logging in with your UW-Stout Microsoft account. Your scholarship application will populate with information from your student account. Then you simply need to complete any missing information and submit.
