Recruitment is managed through the College Panhellenic Council at UW-Stout. There are two opportunities to go through recruitment: Primary Recruitment and Continuous Open Bidding.
Primary recruitment is conducted during the first three weeks of fall semester. UW-Stout utilizes a continuous recruitment model that is more informal and allows for potential new members to get a feel for the sorority experience without all the frills of a fully structured process. Interested women are encouraged to attend events hosted by each chapter to find the organization that is the best fit for them. At the end of the primary recruitment period the College Panhellenic distributes invitations for membership on behalf of each sorority.
It is important to recognize that formal recruitment is a mutual selection process. Participation in sorority recruitment does not guarantee an invitation to join a sorority, nor does it obligate a woman to join. However, approximately 90-100% of the women participating in recruitment each year join a sorority at the end of the primary recruitment period
Every potential new member will be assigned a Recruitment Counselor who will be available during the entire recruitment process to answer questions, provide support and give valuable insight. The Panhellenic Advisor is also available to help explain the recruitment process.
Continuous Open Bidding
Panhellenic also participates in an informal recruitment process, or Continuous Open Bidding (COB). However, there is no guarantee that all chapters will be eligible to participate in this process after the primary recruitment period in the fall. There is a higher likelihood that women can select to go through COB during the start of spring semester.
During COB, chapters host their events on a timeline unique to the chapter and often spread out the time of events to increase the number of women who can attend. Potential new members are welcome to attend events for various sororities, but there is no coordinated date for bid distribution. During COB, sororities will contact potential new members directly to extend an invitation for membership.
