Permit Information

Commuter permits are valid in a standard (unsigned) space, and vehicles should be parked fully within stall markings. 

Overnight (2 AM - 7 AM) parking is prohibited in commuter lots.

Location

A commuter permit offers parking in an available space in one of eight main campus commuter lots (Lot 1, 10, 14, 18, 24, 27, 29, 30), and one north campus commuter lot (Lot 20). A space is not guaranteed in any specific lot. 

Do not park in residence hall parking lots or Lot 28 (near Vocational Rehabilitation Building).

Lot 34 is not available for Commuter Permits

Reserved permits are only available to those who have been pre-authorized. If you are not currently a reserved permit holder but interested, please email Parking Services to inquire about availability before registering.

Authorized individuals are eligible to register for a reserved area in a specific lot.

If you do not wish to renew your reserved permit please email Parking Services for assistance.

Location

A reserved parking permit is valid in the reserved section of a single lot. A reserved permit is not valid in the reserved area of other parking lots.

Reserved permits also authorize parking in any campus commuter space outside of your home reserved lot.

Individuals who are currently authorized with Parking Services as disabled-eligible may purchase a disabled parking permit.

If you are not registered as disabled-eligible, but need accessible parking (short term), you need to obtain a Temporary Parking Accommodation or you can email Parking for assistance before registering.

It is important that we align your permit with your parking time frame (24 hours for housing or day parking for commuters).  As you complete your permit registration, ensure you're being offered the correct permit. If not, please suspend registration and email Parking.

Location

Signed disabled spaces are available in every campus parking lot.

Disability permits are also valid in a standard (unsigned) space in either a commuter or housing parking lot - except Lot 28 (near Voc Rehab building).

Please note that, unlike municipalities, State issued and UW-Stout disabled permits are not valid in UW-Stout meters or pay by plate areas.

UW-Stout disabled permits are not valid in municipal metered or signed spaces.

A disabled permit is not valid overnight (2AM - 7AM) in a center campus commuter lot.

South (main) Campus Residential Permit - SR Permit - authorizes parking in an available space in one of three main South campus lots (lots 4, 15 and 34). Not a specific lot but where ever a space (unsigned, unreserved) is available. 

There are reserved spaces within main campus Lot 4.  They are signed as reserved 24/7 and your permit is NOT valid in these spaces.

Highlighted are valid lots:

X Permit provides a signed, reserved space in Lot 4. The reserved space offers the certainty of parking in that lot. This permit is NOT valid in any other lot or space.

This permit provides parking in Lot 17 only. Currently this lot is used as an overflow lot for either north or south campus housing residents.

Students should also consider placing themselves on the waitlist for a standard north or south campus permit.

The NR Permit authorizes parking in an available space (unsigned, unreserved) in one of five north campus housing lots (Lots 9, 11, 12, 21, 22). Not a specific lot but where ever a space (unsigned, unreserved) is available.

Do not park in the following areas:

• North campus commuter lots (Lot 8 near the LST house or Lot 20 near Student Health Services
• Reserved lots (Lot 32 north of Red Cedar Hall or Lot 25 behind JTC).
• Reserved (signed) spaces (front row) in Lot 21.

The NC Permit provides a signed, reserved space in north campus Lot 32 (north of Red Cedar), Lot 25 (behind JTC), and the front row of Lot 21 (signed spaces) and access to main campus commuter lots (day parking only). The reserved space offers the certainty of parking in a specific lot rather than an available space in one of the five north campus lots with the option of driving to main campus when needed.  The NC permit is only valid in lots 32, 25 and the front row of lot 21 (signed) on north campus

Valid main campus commuter lots include: 1, 10, 14, 18, 24, 27, 29, and 30. This permit is valid for standard unsigned, unmetered spaces. Parking is offered on a space-available basis in any of these lots - not in a specific lot, but wherever a space is open.

Not valid on the main campus commuter lots during the Career Conference dates.

In short-term lots, accessible parking spaces are subject to the posted time limits and restrictions applicable to the lot in which they are located, unless an exception is granted by the UW–Stout Police Department.

Motorcycles and mopeds receive the same permit and are governed by similar regulations but may park in slightly different areas.

Motorcycle permits are valid in signed cycle pads (areas noted on campus maps).

Mopeds: your vehicle is a moped if it is licensed as a moped.  If so, "MOPED" will be printed on your Wisconsin license plate (or equivalent designation in another state).

Moped permits are valid in signed cycle pads, moped only areas and bicycle racks around residence halls only.

Caution: Mopeds cannot be operated on a pedestrian walkway or campus bike route.  Operation of a motor vehicle on a walkway is a violation of both university regulations and state traffic laws.

Please note that motorcycle/moped permits are not valid in vehicle parking spaces.

Overnight parking for motorcycles: cycle pads in lots 4, 21, 27, 32. Mopeds: motorcycle pads in lots 4, 21, 27, 32 or in bike racks near residence halls.

Motorcycle/Moped permits are not refundable.

  • South of Bowman Hall
  • South of Swanson Learning Center
  • West and South of Lot 18
  • North of Lot 3 on North campus
• A bicycle rack ONLY near a residence hall - (directly adjacent to a residence hall).
• When parking near bike racks do not block walkway paths or building entrances.  Mopeds cannot be operated on sidewalks to access bike parking areas.

Students are eligible to purchase a day permit for their use or that of a visitor.

Day permits are limited and are not always available. Contact Parking Services prior to bringing a vehicle to campus to ensure that a permit will be available for your use.

Students who bring a vehicle to campus infrequently may purchase a week permit for only those weeks when they drive.

Temporary one-week permits, for main campus and north campus overnights, can be purchased online through the portal if any are available.  If they do not show up on the portal, they are currently sold out.

Permits are available for short term use of parking facilities. Short term permits are sold by the day, week and month. 

The availability of short term parking is limited and is based on weekly surveys of the number of spaces available. A student or guest must purchase and display a short term permit prior to parking in a campus lot.

Contact Parking Services to inquire about the current availability of short term parking spaces.

Summer permits are available after the first week in May until August 15th. Must come into the Parking Services Office for purchase.

If you already have a current year permit it is valid through August 15th. If your needs have changed and you need to exchange your permit, please contact the parking office.

Semester break permits must be purchased in the Parking Office.

Commuters that already have a valid permit, continue to park in the same manner as during the Spring or Fall semester.

Residence hall students that already have a permit, watch for information via e-mail or on the Parking main web page to let you know what lots are open and closed during Winterm.

E-mail or stop by Parking Services to inquire about a break permit.

Unloading permits are required for any use of building loading docks, walkways, lawns, fire lanes, etc. Regulation after hours is necessary because many of these areas serve as fire lanes, and emergency building access, and service to university buildings is often needed during evenings and weekends.

University service areas are strictly regulated for authorized usage.

Occasionally, very short term unloading can be arranged with a phone call. Again, authorization must be obtained prior to parking.

Designated short-term parking areas and loading/unloading zones are intended for occasional brief usage.

• When metered, use requires paid time on the meter.
• Timed spaces are strictly regulated for posted time limit.
• Short-term and loading zones are regulated 24 hours, everyday.
• The fine for a violation in a short-term/loading zone is $15, including in metered short-term spaces.
• Long-term violations are subject to multiple citations.

The Press (P) permit authorizes occasional parking for media organizations. This permit is valid only while actually engaged in media coverage of UW-Stout. The permit holder is responsible for ensuring that all users of the permit are aware of regulations governing use of the permit.

University faculty/staff are not authorized to use the Press permit.

Authorized parking areas:

• An unreserved space in any UW-Stout parking lot - all signed spaces are reserved
• Other areas after authorization from Parking Services

Areas where Press permits are not valid:

• Meters
• Signed/reserved spaces (Disabled, A-Zone, Physical Plant)
• Lot 28 (adjacent to the Voc Rehab building)
• Timed loading spaces for a longer duration than the posted time limit
• Any area not specifically identified as a parking space
