Legacy of STEPS, Future of Innovation: Welcome to RISE Camp

Although UW-Stout has retired the STEPS for Girls program, we’re excited to build on its legacy with RISE Camp (Robotics-Inspired STEAM Exploration) - an inclusive opportunity for students of all genders to discover their potential, build confidence in STEAM, and have fun exploring innovation in a supportive, team-based environment.

RISE Camp is a five-day, hands-on experience that immerses students in the exciting world of robotics, engineering, and digital innovation. Campers work in teams to build and program robots, design a team identity with a custom logo and webpage, and document their journey using photography and videography. The camp also includes experiences with coding, 3D printing, outdoor adventures, and team challenges, all designed to encourage creativity, confidence, and collaboration.

What was STEPS for Girls?

Science, Technology and Engineering Preview Summer (STEPS) at UW-Stout was a five-day residential summer camp for girls between their 6th and 7th grades in school. STEPS for Girls aimed to build confidence in young women by structuring their participation in STEM-related activities. The hands-on activities and the high-energy environment were designed to inspire both confidence and enthusiasm.
