Transfer Students

Welcome to UW-Stout! Once admitted complete these important registration, enrollment, and advising steps.
In this Section
Step 1: Activate your UW-Stout e-mail
  • Go to https://password.uwstout.edu/activate.aspx to activate your UW-Stout e-mail. You will need your student ID number. Contact the Admissions Office at transfer@uwstout.edu or 715-232-1411  if you cannot remember your ID number.
  • You received a letter and an e-mail from Admissions shortly after applying which includes your student ID number.
  • After successfully setting your password, you will be directed to activate your UW-Stout e-mail account.
  • Your e-mail username and password are used for all UW-Stout login functions.
Step 2: Find your Transfer Credit Report
  • You will receive an e-mail in your UW-Stout e-mail account with a notification that your Transfer Credit Report has been completed and how to access it. Read how to interpret your Transfer Credit Report.
Step 3: University of Wisconsin Placement Testing
  • All students are required to either take the University of Wisconsin English and Math Placement Tests or have college credit in English and Math.
  • The e-mail mentioned in Step 2 identifies whether you need to complete a placement exam(s).
  • Register for Placement Testing by location at the UW-System Center for Placement Testing
  • Students who have already taken the University of Wisconsin Placement Tests do not need to take them again. If you have transfer credits in any of the following English courses, you do not need to take the English Placement Tests: ENGL 090; 101; 111.
  • If you have college credit in math, it may not be adequate preparation for the major you are entering; your advisor will advise you on what math class to enroll in.
  • If you plan to take Spanish while attending UW-Stout and have not taken Spanish at your previous institution you will need to take the Spanish World Languages Placement Test.
  • If you have additional questions about placement or testing contact our Testing Center via e-mail at advisement.testing@uwstout.edu
Step 4: Advising
  • Once your Transfer Credit Report has been completed, you will receive an e-mail (within a few days) with advising and enrollment information from your major's program director or Advisement Center advisor. Advisors are assigned based on declared major and credits as noted below:
    • Transfer students with a declared major
      • 15+ transfer credits = Program Director
      • Less than 15 transfer credits = Advisement Center advisor
    • Undeclared transfer students
      • Any number of credits = Advisement Center advisor

Your advisor's name can be found on your Access Stout Student Center Page. To navigate to the Access Stout Student Center follow the steps below:

  • Navigate to the Common Logins page, select Access Stout, and login with your Stout student credentials.
  • Click on "Classic Home"
  • Click on "Self-Service" in the left hand column
  • Click on "Student Center"
  • Advisor is located in the right hand column
  • Click on "details"

Week One Online Orientation Course

  • The online course found in Canvas is comprised of 6 modules that need to be completed by Monday, September 14.
  • We encourage all students to finish as many of the modules as they can prior to the first day of class on Wednesday, September 9.

  • Each module will have three parts: a video, information to read over and a quiz.
  • You must finish the module you are in to continue to the next module.
  • It is important to review all the information provided in each module.

Making connections to UW-Stout

  • It is important that students make connections to their peers and campus during the first few days.
