Quality Counseling, Affordable Support

Strong, healthy relationships are the foundation of our community. Since 1974, the UW-Stout Clinical Services Center (CSC) has been strengthening relationships in the Menomonie area by providing quality couple and family therapy services to community members at an affordable cost.

Our community outreach offers quality clinical and assessment services provided by advanced graduate students in the Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT), Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and School Psychology Programs at UW-Stout. In addition, fully licensed supervisors and AAMFT approved supervisors with decades of combined clinical experience provide direct feedback and supervision throughout the counseling process, ensuring that every client receives ethical care to meet their needs.

Accessibility Statement

The Clinical Services Center (CSC) is committed to providing an inclusive, welcoming, and accessible experience for all individuals, including people with disabilities. We strive to ensure both our physical office and digital resources are accessible and supportive for every client, family member, and visitor.

Physical Accessibility

The CSC is located on the second floor of the Vocational Rehabilitation Building on UW-Stout’s campus. The front entrance, or the East entrance, to the Vocational Rehabilitation Building is located on the second floor and has an ADA Push Plate clients can press to automatically open the doors. Once clients have entered through the front, the entrance to the CSC is about 50 feet away.

The back entrance, or the West entrance, of the Vocational Rehabilitation Building has an ADA Push Plate clients can press to automatically open the doors. After entering, about 50 feet ahead is an elevator clients can use to reach the second floor.

A wheelchair-accessible restroom is available on the same level as the CSC.

The doorways and hallways throughout the Vocational Rehabilitation Building are wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair.

The CSC waiting area and the therapy rooms can be adapted to accommodate different physical needs. Furniture can be moved or rearranged to provide additional space or make positioning more comfortable.

Clients are welcome to request materials with enlarged print.

If you have questions about whether the physical space will meet your access needs, the CSC welcomes you to contact us before your appointment.

Telehealth & Alternative Access

Telehealth is available to clients located in Wisconsin and may be an option when traveling to the office creates a physical, medical, sensory, or logistical barrier.

If you need an adjustment to how we communicate, schedule, complete paperwork, or otherwise participate in therapy, we encourage you to ask. We may not be able to meet every access need, but we will work with you to identify reasonable options whenever possible.

Website & Client Portal Accessibility

The CSC is committed to making information about our clinic as accessible as reasonably possible. Because website platforms, client portal software, devices, and assistive technologies vary, we cannot guarantee compatibility with every accessibility tool or technology.

If you encounter an accessibility barrier while using this website, completing forms, or accessing the client portal, please contact the CSC. When possible, we will work with you to find an alternative way to access the information or complete the necessary task.

Sensory Accessibility

The CSC has readily available fidgets and other sensory items in all the therapy rooms. Clients are welcome to bring and use their own sensory items to and during sessions as well. The therapy rooms have both overhead lights and lamps, and clients are welcome to request a lighting preference.

Clients are welcome to take a break during session at any time.

Please contact us if you have any questions about physical, telehealth, and website/portal accessibility options.

Play Therapy & Filial Therapy

Play is the foundational way in which children develop, express themselves, and make sense of the world.  Through play therapy, you and your child will collaborate with a counselor-in-training and their supervisor to address emotional, behavioral, mental, and developmental concerns.

If you are so inclined, during the summer term, you and your child can extend the principles of play therapy by participating in Filial Therapy.  Filial Therapy emphasizes interaction between the child and their caregiver. Adults initially collaborate closely with a counselor-in-training to acquire and practice specific skills. Subsequently, they integrate these skills into interactions with their child, fostering a deeper and more enriching relationship.

Both Play Therapy and Filial Therapy are provided free to the community.  In the Fall and Spring terms, Play Therapy is scheduled at times between you and your assigned graduate student.  In the Summer term, Play Therapy and Filial Therapy are offered Thursdays 12:30-4:00 p.m.

Please contact Dr. Andy Felton PhD, LPC, RPT-S, ADS with any questions you may have at 715-232-2233 or feltonan@uwstout.edu

Psychoeducational Evaluation

The Clinical Services Center provides comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations for individuals on campus and in the community. Advanced graduate student clinicians in school psychology work with faculty supervision to conduct a customized assessment aimed at answering questions about learning, attention, and other life functions.

  • K-12 Learners: Our services are designed to provide answers and information related to academic concerns for K-12 students. Referrals to the clinic include: cognitive, academic, behavioral, social-emotional, adaptive (life skills), social-pragmatic (autism), attention/focus, and processing performance issues.
  • College & Adult Services: College students and adults returning to post-secondary education may find themselves struggling to learn, focus or adequately function in order to meet life goals, such as continuing education to support a career change. Referrals from college disability service centers are common.
  • Additional Information: A minimum of three visits (in-person and/or via telehealth) to the Clinical Services Center are typically required to complete a comprehensive psychoeducational assessment. The progress includes an intake interview, customized assessment sessions (cognitive, academic, social-emotional, etc.), and a feedback-exist session to share your report and explain the results.
  • Cost & Scheduling: Services are provided at a low cost without the need for insurance. Psychoeducational evaluations are available on Wednesday, Thursday, and Fridays, with services provided September to May (services are not available during the summer).
