UW-Stout’s Center for Sustainable Communities supports environmentally and socially sustainable communities through applied research, consultancy, and continuing education. Sustainable communities include: 

  • A healthy environment that sustains livelihoods, provides quality of life for residents, and attracts visitors.
    • A thriving local economy that provides opportunities for all, including in the agricultural and tourism sectors.
  • An engaged community that can come together to address existing and emerging problems 

Center for Sustainable Communities Areas of Focus 

  • Providing solutions around sustainability practices to combat environmental degradation and support the protection of freshwater resources.
  • Creating economic vitality through the support of small and medium sized businesses with an emphasis on agri-businesses and tourism.
